CDH Nurse Achieves Advanced Certification

Megan McDowell, RN, BSN, RN-BC, recently earned advanced certification in Cardiac Vascular Nursing by the American Nursing Credentialing Center. Currently, McDowell is a critical care resource nurse at Central DuPage Hospital (CDH). She is also a member of CDH’s rapid response team. This team of experts can be accessed 24 hours a day when a patient is exhibiting early signs of distress and provides timely intervention at the bedside.
Cardiac vascular nurses provide comprehensive nursing care to individuals diagnosed with cardiac vascular disease and identified as at risk for cardiac vascular events. In general, they are responsible for the development, coordination and evaluation of a plan of care that uses a multi-disciplinary and case management approach. While concentrating on cardiac vascular health, the practice considers all influences on health status and related social and behavioral problems. The theoretical basis for this nursing practice incorporates physiological and psychosocial concepts of health as they affect cardiac/vascular wellness in adult patients.
